The boys and girls are screaming
I want to articulate this moment right because it means something to me and I think it’s important for writers.
My new novel Boys And Girls Screaming is available for preorder. I’m excited, yes, but this is not a dream. Or I should say that this is not the dream. Let me explain.
When my older brother was 16 years old, he was ranked as one of the top 3 football players in all of North America. We’re from Toronto, Canada, where football isn’t nearly as prominent as it is in the U.S., so for my brother to be ranked so high was an accomplishment that had never been achieved by a Canadian.
The next year, he accepted a scholarship to Stanford University, which can be argued is one of the top schools in the world. He played there for four years then made it to the NFL. He made it to the NFL. I say it twice because it’s so rare for an athlete to make it to the pros, but my brother made it look effortless.
I witnessed all of this. I had a front row seat to every phase of my brother’s journey. I saw the work he had to put in, the sacrifices he chose to make, and the focus and intensity it took for him to go all the way. Seeing that level of success does something to you. It did something to me. It transformed success from this elusive dream into an expectation.
